Cameroon Passport: Complete Application Guide

A practical guide to applying for an ordinary Cameroonian biometric passport, renewing one, replacing a missing or damaged passport, and preparing an application for a child or from abroad.

ChikieChikie is an independent informational website. We do not issue passports, represent the Cameroon government, collect government fees or guarantee approval or faster processing. Applications are handled by the General Delegation for National Security (DGSN) and the relevant official diplomatic missions.

Quick Overview

  • Who: Cameroonian nationals, including children through the appropriate parent or guardian procedure.
  • Start: Online pre-enrolment through the official PassCam portal, followed by an appointment at the selected enrolment centre or participating diplomatic mission.
  • Passport fee: 110,000 FCFA. Supporting documents, payment-provider charges and separately published consular fees may cost extra.
  • Main documents: Pre-enrolment receipt, certified identity and birth documents appropriate to the applicant, plus any documents for renewal, replacement, parental authority or residence abroad.
  • In person: Document checks and biometric enrolment; online registration alone does not complete the application.
  • Collection: Follow the official SMS/email and the collecting office’s instructions. Overseas delivery takes additional time.
  • Validity: Five years under the passport decree.

Important 2026 update: Paragraph 54 of Cameroon’s official 2026 budget-execution circular extends the requirement to produce an Attestation de Conformité Fiscale (ACF, a tax-compliance certificate) to passport applications. Some passport checklists still show the earlier document lists. Before paying or travelling, ask DGSN or your diplomatic mission how this requirement applies to your application, particularly for children or applicants abroad. This guide does not assume an exemption.

Who Can Apply?

This guide covers the ordinary passport for Cameroonian nationals. Service and diplomatic passports are separate official categories and are not ordinary alternatives an applicant can simply choose. Naturalised applicants or people whose Cameroonian nationality has been restored may need the relevant decree.

The official document checklists distinguish age groups, including children under 15, applicants aged 15–21 and older adults. Requirements at exact age boundaries should be confirmed with the enrolment office. A passport does not replace the visa or entry permission required by a destination country.

What You Need Before Starting

  • An email address or phone number you can access for the verification code and later notifications.
  • Your supporting documents, with names, dates and places checked for consistency.
  • A payment method currently offered by the official portal.
  • A suitable enrolment location and availability to attend in person.
  • Access to printing for the pre-enrolment form/receipt and appointment details.
  • Confirmation of the 2026 ACF requirement and any mission-specific additions.

Use official websites and verify payment instructions. Avoid sending money, identity documents or verification codes to an unverified intermediary. ChikieChikie cannot validate an agent or accelerate a government application.

Step-by-Step Passport Application

  1. Choose the correct application category. Check whether you are applying for the first time, renewing, replacing a passport or applying for a child. If abroad, read your mission’s checklist first.
  2. Prepare the documents. Obtain the required certified copies and any parental, loss, nationality or residence evidence. Resolve inconsistent personal details before enrolment.
  3. Complete official online pre-enrolment. Enter your contact details, use the verification code, select a passport application and enter accurate information.
  4. Pay and book an appointment. Follow the payment options displayed on the official portal, select an available centre/date, and print the resulting application and receipt.
  5. Attend physical enrolment. Bring originals, required copies and the printed confirmation. Staff check the file and record the required biometrics. Carefully verify the recorded details.
  6. Keep the receipt and await instructions. Respond to any request for additional documents. Collect only when the official notification or office confirms that the passport is available.

Documents Required

First-Time Passport Application: Standard Adult File

The official PassCam checklist and passport decree identify the following core documents:

  • Pre-enrolment/payment receipt and application confirmation.
  • Certified copy of the birth certificate.
  • Certified copy of the National Identity Card (CNI).
  • Proof of profession or social status, where applicable.
  • Certified marriage certificate where required by the applicant’s category; the decree specifically lists married women.
  • Naturalisation or nationality-restoration decree, where applicable.

The portal has an age-specific category for applicants over 50; its birth-certificate requirement differs from the standard younger-adult list. Do not assume an exemption at age 50 without confirmation. See the dedicated sections below for renewal, replacement, children and overseas documents. Ask about the additional 2026 ACF requirement for every application type.

Bring the originals alongside the certified copies requested by the office. A plain photocopy is not automatically a certified copy. Confirm which authority can certify your documents and whether foreign documents require transcription or other formalities.

How Much Does a Cameroon Passport Cost?

The official ordinary-passport fee established by DGSN information and the Cameroon Embassy in Berlin’s published fee schedule is 110,000 FCFA. Pay through the official pre-enrolment arrangements and keep the receipt.

This is not necessarily the total cost of preparing your file. Certification, supporting documents, transport, payment-provider charges and separately published mission fees can be additional. For example, Berlin lists €50 in consular fees separately from the 110,000 FCFA passport payment. That is a Berlin charge, not a worldwide embassy tariff.

The portal offers payment arrangements such as mobile money and bank cards; use the options actually displayed for your application. Check any currency conversion and charges before authorising payment. Ask for an official explanation and receipt for additional charges rather than treating an informal quotation as a government fee.

Online Pre-Enrolment

Begin at portal.passcam.cm, reached through the official PassCam service. Registration uses an email address or phone number and a verification code. Complete the passport information, payment and appointment stages, then save and print the generated documents.

Online pre-enrolment is the normal required starting stage. It does not replace document verification, biometric attendance or DGSN approval. Do not start multiple paid applications to solve an error; use the official help route.

Passport Appointment

Attend the location selected in your appointment confirmation. Within Cameroon, use the official enrolment centres offered by the booking system; do not assume every police office can enrol passports. From abroad, select the relevant participating mission and check its local arrangements.

The PassCam FAQ describes one online appointment change and a minimum 48-hour notice requirement. If the portal will not allow a change or you have missed the appointment, contact official support or the mission rather than paying again without instructions.

Biometric Enrolment

Staff review the documents, check your personal information and capture the required photograph, fingerprints and signature as applicable. Keep the receipt issued after enrolment. Your passport photograph is captured during the biometric stage; a mission may separately request photographs for a consular card or another supporting document.

Check the spelling of your name, birth details and other information before confirming it. The reviewed sources do not establish one universal age rule for fingerprint exemptions, so ask the centre about a young child’s biometric requirements.

Processing and Notification

DGSN’s published instructions describe passport production within 48 hours after physical enrolment where the application is not rejected. The current PassCam FAQ expresses normal personalisation as up to two working days from completion of enrolment for a file without abnormalities, followed by delivery to the issuing office. This is a production target, not a promise that the entire journey—from gathering documents or booking online to collection—takes 48 hours. Document checks, additional information, rejection or correction, and overseas transport can affect the actual timeline.

The official system uses SMS and/or email notifications. Monitor the contact details supplied during pre-enrolment and follow any instructions about an incomplete file. The PassCam FAQ provides assistance for applicants who have not received a notification; contact contact@passcam.cm or your mission with your application reference. No independent public status-tracking page was conclusively established in the sources reviewed.

Collecting Your Passport

Collection is normally at the issuing office where you enrolled. Follow its notification and appointment instructions. Keep the original enrolment receipt and proof of identity available. For renewal, bring the previous passport: PassCam describes invalidating it and returning it when the replacement is issued, with exceptions for lost, stolen or damaged passports. Do not travel solely because a general production target has elapsed.

Collection rules abroad vary. London requires the original receipt and identity evidence and provides a procedure for collection by an authorised representative. Berlin also describes authorised proxy collection. Do not assume a friend can collect without the required certified authorisation.

Passport Renewal

A passport can be renewed before expiry. Renewal means applying for a new passport, not simply extending the old document. The official renewal checklist covers expiry and passports with no free pages, and groups damaged passports with this process.

  • Pre-enrolment receipt and the old passport.
  • Certified CNI copy.
  • Certified birth-certificate copy for applicants under 50, as listed by PassCam.
  • Proof of profession/status and certified marriage certificate where applicable.
  • Any additional age-specific, mission or current ACF requirements.

Use the same online and physical-enrolment stages. Allow enough time before planned travel; destination countries may require remaining passport validity beyond your travel dates.

Lost or Stolen Passport

Report the loss or theft to the competent authority and notify the issuing authority. The official replacement checklist requires a loss declaration/certificate carrying the missing passport number, together with a copy of the old passport and the applicable identity, birth and supporting documents.

Keep a secure copy of your passport’s identity page for future reference. If you have neither a copy nor the passport number, ask DGSN or your mission how to establish the previous record; do not invent a number or assume the standard file will be accepted without it. Replacement still requires official pre-enrolment and physical attendance.

Damaged Passport

The passport decree requires damage to be reported to the issuing authority. PassCam places damaged-passport applications in its renewal category. Keep the damaged passport and prepare the renewal documents. Ask the office whether the particular damage requires additional evidence; the reviewed sources do not establish a separate universal damage-certificate checklist.

Passport Applications for Children

Children can apply through the parent, legal guardian or an appropriately authorised person. Parental authority and the adult’s identity must be documented.

  • Under 15: The PassCam checklist includes the pre-enrolment receipt, certified birth certificate, parental/legal-guardian authorisation and a certified CNI copy of the parent, guardian or authorised person. The child’s CNI is not listed as a standard requirement in that category.
  • Ages 15–21: The portal additionally lists the applicant’s certified CNI copy, alongside the birth and parental-authority documents.
  • Special situations: Guardianship, a legal proxy, emancipation or marriage may require additional legal evidence. Obtain the office’s checklist for the actual circumstances.

London explicitly requests certified parental authorisation for applicants under 21. Confirm the applicable age category, the child’s required attendance, acceptable authorisation and biometrics with your centre or mission. For a child born abroad, the mission may require a Cameroonian transcription of the birth record. Ask how the 2026 ACF requirement is applied to a child’s application.

Applying From Outside Cameroon

Cameroonians abroad apply through the relevant Cameroon diplomatic mission or consular post. Official online pre-enrolment remains part of the process, but there is no single identical worldwide embassy checklist.

Common additional requirements include proof of residence or immigration status in the host country and mission-specific consular registration. Requirements for the CNI, consular card, previous passport, certified documents, children and collection vary. London’s page, for example, describes a valid CNI or valid consular card and specific UK residence evidence; those UK instructions should not be applied automatically elsewhere.

London says passports are generally available there within two weeks from production. That is a mission-specific estimate with overseas transport, not a worldwide guarantee. Check your own mission’s jurisdiction, appointments, local charges, collection arrangements and current ACF instructions before paying or travelling.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using an unofficial portal or sharing a verification code with an unverified intermediary.
  • Choosing a first-application category for a renewal or replacement without checking the checklist.
  • Bringing only ordinary photocopies when certified copies and originals are required.
  • Ignoring inconsistent names or birth details across documents.
  • Missing parental-authority or overseas residence documents.
  • Assuming the passport payment includes every supporting-document or consular charge.
  • Treating a 48-hour production target as a guaranteed collection date.
  • Relying on an older checklist without checking the 2026 ACF update.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I complete everything online?

No. Pre-enrolment begins online, but document checks and biometric enrolment require the official physical stage.

Is 110,000 FCFA the entire cost?

It is the published passport fee. Supporting documents, payment charges and separately established consular fees can add to your expenses.

Can I renew before my passport expires?

Yes. The passport decree permits renewal before expiry. Prepare a new application with the old passport and the required renewal documents.

Will I receive my passport 48 hours after paying?

No such guarantee is established. The published production period relates to physical enrolment and an application that is not rejected; overseas transport and collection are separate.

Does a young child need a CNI?

The official under-15 passport checklist does not list the child’s CNI as a standard document. It requires birth and parental-authority evidence. Check the exact age category and your mission’s requirements.

What if I lose my passport abroad?

Report it and contact your official Cameroon mission. Obtain its replacement checklist, including the loss declaration and previous passport details, before starting a new application.

How do I check progress?

Monitor official SMS/email messages and contact PassCam support or the relevant mission with your application reference if necessary. Use their instructions rather than an unverified tracking service.

Is the tax-compliance certificate now required?

The 2026 budget circular extends the ACF requirement to passport applications. Confirm practical requirements and any applicable arrangements for your circumstances with the responsible authority; an older online checklist does not establish an exemption.
