Start Module 1 — Getting Started

Who this course is for

Complete beginners and people newly living in Finland. The explanations are in English. No previous Finnish knowledge is needed. You can study independently and repeat any section at your own pace.

What you will be able to do

By working through the course, you will practise introducing yourself, using everyday greetings, recognising numbers and dates, asking about prices, understanding basic transport vocabulary, and using simple phrases at work or appointments. These are learning goals, not a promise of fluency.

Course structure

Course → Modules → Lessons → Practice → Self-check quiz → Final practice exam. Each module contains three short lessons, examples, practice activities and questions with answers you can reveal.

The five modules

1 — Getting Started: Finnish alphabet & pronunciation; basic greetings; introducing yourself.

2 — Everyday Conversation: Numbers; days and months; simple questions and answers.

3 — Shopping & Money: Prices; paying; asking for help.

Final Practice Exam — Everyday Finnish for Beginners

How to practise and check your answers

Read each explanation, say the examples aloud, then try the activity before opening the answers. Use the self-check questions as a short quiz. Compare your answer with the explanation and revisit anything difficult. Answers are not submitted or stored. After all five modules, try the final practice exam and use its self-scoring guide.

Independent learning

The course includes five modules and a final practice exam. It does not provide automatic scoring, saved learning progress, certificates or accredited qualifications.
